Reviews
Great place to learn about St. Gallen’s history in the fashion industry and view some unique timeless pieces that originated from here. Random but cool: They have very unique embroidered post cards.
Very interesting museum located 7min from the main train station. One does not always know that St. Gallen is famous for its textile history. The museum is not very large but very pleasant. The architecture is cool to see. The iron work of the staircase looked like lace which is also a specialty of St.Gallen. The temporary exhibit we got to see was about Women in power. It was an interesting topic that highlights our prejudices towards females and males. There are loom demonstrations as well but do check the timings. Furthermore if you get the chance to see the Textile library have a go at it. It think it would be fascinating to see. (Check the schedule). The lady at the reception was very friendly. Cool place to visit.
A must visit if you happen to be in St. Gallen. Also, do visit the library at the museum which showcases quite an exclusive collection of books on textile art, design and machinery
Sadly when we visited the museum was still in the middle of renovations so we could only see a section with machinery and a small exhibition upstairs (which was still very interesting). Would like to return when it's fully open, building is beautiful. Also liked that the tickets are textile swatches, lovely idea.
It felt like my most underwhelming museum experience: the permanent exhibition is not available before May this year, so all that was available today were two quite interesting machines and a tiny, tiny bit of history about lace making. And a small quilts exhibition.
I guess if you're interested in the topics of the temporary exhibitions it's worth it to go when they're open. I was hoping to see part of one of the largest textile collections in Switzerland and was more interested in history. So I hope I will find the permanent exhibition worth it, once it's available.
Very disappointed in today's visit. Very few exhibits and library was closed even though it was supposed to be open. I studied the web site ahead of time and expected much more.
Would be nice if the library open more often. Otherwise it’s a very high quality library with diverse selection.
Yesterday I've had a wonderful day with the course Upcycling with Haute Couture Techniques with haute couture designer Sun Sun. There's a whole world to discover!
